Ice Kacang Puppy Love

This is a late post on the movie I watched more than a week ago on Sunday night. I went with Charis Tan & her dad for the movie "Ice Kacang Puppy Love" & really appreciate them for bringing me there. Charis decided to watch the movie at 11.40 p.m. on purpose, even though she has a class at 8.00 a.m. the next day cause she knew I wanted to watch the movie & that I needed to go back the next day. Really thank her dad, Uncle Raymond, for fetching us there & paying for the movie & pop corn. Really a great family they are.

It's a directorial debut by the singer/actor "Ah Niu" who also acted in the movie as the character "Botak". Overall, I would say that the movie was good, though those who can't stand romance might find it boring, the comedy is worth the while too. The movie gave a nostalgic feeling of growing up from childhood till the point where we need to decide for our own lives. I never knew Malaysian actors & actresses could act so well! I was given a pleasant surprise when I saw how they portrayed their characters; even the kid in the movie cried so convincingly.

One more thing that I like a lot about the movie is the cinematography in which some scenes are captured very beautifully. Personally, I liked the artworks "Botak" drew in the movie. Stunning! The movie is mainly about Botak's first "puppy love" towards his childhood friend, "Fighting Fish" & what they went through from childhood, with Botak secretly having a crush on Fighting Fish. The movie also portrays the bond between family member, especially the parents with their children that I find meaningful.

This movie reminds me of how pure a "puppy love" can be at times, especially if it's the "first love". Yes, it may be immature & rash but as we grow up & become more mature, we tend to lose the purity of the love we have; governed by lust, our desire to find a financially stable partner & desire for wealth & status. It reminds me of how it can apply to even my Christian life. My love for God was most probably the most "pure" when I first gave my life to Him, even though I was ignorant about everything else. (Of course, it's not good to just stay that way, that's why I've grown more matured as a Christian.)

However, at times I find that when I become more "matured" in the Word & my service for Him, I tend to lose sight of the purity of my "first love" with God. This doesn't mean I should stop growing but ALWAYS remember how I was when I was first called. I don't know if this movie will give you the same feeling but after watching it & thinking about it, it really reminded me of how it should be for my relationship with God; making me realize how important it is to keep my FIRST LOVE even though I may grow or change .

Thanks Charis & Uncle Raymond again for an unforgettable night of fun.

God bless.
